Bend the blues away

A new found love: about 6 months ago I discovered Mona Vale’s own boutique hot yoga studio, Modern Movement. If you’ve been there before, you would agree that it is one of the most beautiful little spaces on the Northern Beaches – painted in white and filled with plenty of natural light the studio is open 7 days a week with a variety of membership options available! Check out the timetable here: MM Timetable

So, late last year I approached MM’s directors James & Rachael with the idea to get a community based initiative off the ground to support the local community and raise awareness for mental illness on the Northern Beaches.

This issue really struck home to me as not only have I witnessed the horrible effects it has had on our community during recent times; but I myself have also suffered some serious bouts of anxiety from as early as I can remember and in recent times I have used yoga as a release both physically and mentally and I’ve never felt better.

In Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death for males and females aged between 15 and 44. In a typical year, around 2,500 people in Australia die by suicide. That’s nearly seven people every day. For every suicide, there are tragic ripple effects for friends, families, colleagues and the broader community. – Beyond Blue, Australia

After chatting together and nutting out a plan we decided that between us both (MM & Myself) we could rally together to raise awareness and help combat the issue through a weekly free yoga classes. We decided we could help could raise funds for Beyond Blue through a gold coin donation of which is donated at the beginning of each class.
